Review of Donna's work- A1 animation

Donna's A1 animation was successful in showing her ideas but on a paper medium.
I can see how Zaha Hadid's building has influenced the shapes and accents of the building. Also, you can see the minimalist architecture's influence on the design with lots of straight lines in the vertical and horizontal directions.
The A1 paper itself is used to its full potential to show the thought process like we normally would in a sketch book.
I like how the detail drapes itself over and existing building- it looks as though it blankets it and in a way, takes over the area. The spaces within the building for people to work in is well utilised and it makes the most of the shape of each floor.
In all, Donna's building design from the animation workshop shows gathering in a creative light and I really like the design outcome.

Finished sectional model

I have to say I am not completely happy with the finished model. We all have ideals as to how we want things to turn out but this time it hasn't gone the way that I want.
In hindsight an organic form probably wasn't the best driving idea to focus on when it came to laser cutting. Why not any other building?!
I now know how I should have done it.... cutting each layer becoming smaller and smaller as it moves up the model. I have seen my own dad creating boxes in organic shapes using laser cutting so I definitely should have taken what I learnt from that and applied it to this project.
I am however pleased with the process I went through to get to the buildings design. I am proud of my watercolours that I have done and also that nearly every other building in the laser cutting group was quite linear and box like whereas mine had the flow and organic-ness that others didn't have. One student came up to me during the crit and said that they liked mine purely because it was different to all the others and that it broke the mould when it came to the laser cutting 'shape' of buildings.

All in all I am happy in the fact that I have learnt  a lot from this project and I believe its not always the end product but the process that you go through to get there.... and that is what I am happy with.

experimenting with materials2

Fabric... didnt go so well... it was a lovely fabric to use but putting it in strips over the wire didnt go as planned.
I went out and bought red, green and yellow silk acetate to cover the building with.

Don't get me wrong, the colours looked awesome but it just wasn't working SO
PLAN B:
Tiissue paper and watered down pva. Magic stuff that!

Decided to mix in some green paint as well to give the tissue paper a green look as it was the green section of the building.

The finised tissue papering :) quite happy with the result.
now to paint it the colours of each section instead of using the fabric :D

laser cutting

I LOOOVE laser cutting, it's actually amazing.. no jokes.
these photos show the building that ive put the sectional line through and enlarged to 1:50 size.

Now Ive decided to use wire as the frame for the outer shell instead of the ribs as its takes up minimal space and the whole point of the building is the outer line and the shapes of each space.

Now to wait for it to dry.... glue to hold each bit of wire up :)

experimenting with materials

I had a go at trying out materials to make the spaces' walls.

This idea of the ribs is really cool except the fact that the ribs take up too much space of the floor space.
I talked to my tutors and they said that it is ok to not do the building as 5 storey as it will lose the form so YAY!!!! :D
now to devise a way to put an outer shell on the building to not take up too much space... hmmmm
